Are you ready to change the world? The eleven teen activists in this book were!

Tomorrow Begins Now: Teen Heroes Who Faced Down Injustice tells the inspiring stories of eleven activists who fought for their civil rights and liberties while still in their teens.

These stories, spanning from the 1950s to today, show the real impact teens have had on the most important issues of their day– from racial equality to freedom of speech to LGBTQ+ rights.

The book is built upon a series of exclusive interviews with activists such as:

  • Minnijean Brown Trickey. A member of the Little Rock Nine who fought for school desegregation.

  • Constance McMillen. The teen who fought to bring her girlfriend to prom, inspiring the Broadway musical “The Prom”.

  • Martín Batalla Vidal. A DACA recipient who fought to protect children of undocumented immigrants from deportation.

  • Brandi Levy. A cheerleader who fought at the Supreme Court to protect the right to freedom of speech for students online.

Empowering and hopeful, it’s a must-read if you’re interested in creating change for a better future!

Ava Lorelei Deakin provides fresh perspective on a long-running challenge: how to inspire young people to care about and fight for their civil rights, especially in an age of ever-increasing pessimism. Her courageous voice as expressed in this book, candidly relaying her first-hand experience facing discrimination, should be considered a blueprint for learning how one voice, however perceived as marginalized or powerless, can contribute to the cause of justice.

Ava Lorelei Deakin is a student, author, disability rights activist and public speaker.

When Ava was fifteen, she became the lead plaintiff in a federal discrimination lawsuit fighting for her housing rights as a person with a disability. A historic preservation group in Chicago tried to prevent her family from renovating their own home to make it wheelchair accessible, but Ava prevailed.

Since that time, she has encouraged other young people to drive positive impact by standing up for their civil rights and liberties. Ava has led several citywide and local initiatives to make her community accessible to everyone.

Ava currently attends school at the University of Southern California.
